Well! Room 4 was lucky enough to have MORE visitors to class - Miss Akehurst and her Border Collie, Flynn. They came to school to explain how working dogs help on farms. We got a lot of information from our interview. This will really help with our topic on animal helpers. Comment on here with any facts you can remember about working dogs...

Guten morgen, ich bin Frau Dennert
Room 4 was lucky enough to have a visitor in class from...Germany. Frau Dennert is a primary school teacher from Hamburg and she spent the morning teaching us about life in Germany and also some German language. It was hard for us to pronounce but we we got the hang of it. It would be great to have more visitors from other countries.
What we have learnt about China
The children worked in groups to find the answers to their research questions. Some questions were too broad or too specific so we had to change them. We also learnt that it was important to take notes accurately and to understand what we were copying down. We have to make sure we put the information into our own words. The KWHL chart stands for what we know, what we want to know, how we will find out, and what we have learnt.

Beijing Oylmpics 2008
Today we started our inquiry topic on the Beijing Olympics. We are learning what impact the Olympics may have on China. We will learn some background information on China and the Olympics too. As a class we completed a mindscape to define the topic. Everything we knew about China was recorded. As we learn more, we will add to the mindscape in a different colour pen. Children then completed KWHL charts to sort the information they already knew. They then decided how they would acquire new information. Defining and acquiring are the first two steps of our inquiry process.
